Description
take round the rations in a sack first thing in the morning- 6 different people every day- a chunk of black bread for each, a hard boiled egg & a slice of jam...I mean - ham - everyone is talking & someone at the moment mentioned how she would like some jam - so down went jam on paper!! One great comfort is, that at every station there is a huge boiler affair where one can get hot water - so whenever
we stop at a station, we make a dash for it with cups & water bottles & get them filled. Our mode of tea-making mightn't suits everyone - we get our "tin mugs" filled with hot water, then sprinkle in some tea-leaves & there it is! Makes quite good tea - so we think nowadays anyhow!
There was great excitement last night, about 1.30 we arrived at Vologda, a very big junction; despite it's being after mid-night. Out we all bundled & indulged in a good solid meal - & we thoroughly enjoyed it too. To-day we are living in hopes of another such repast - we are told we may partake of one between 3 & 4 o'cl: which means 12!
