were reported the first night & the number increases steadily! Not to be wondered at, I suppose, this being a troop-train. We are in full possession, have all our cars, stores etc: aboard with us. We simply amble along at about 10 miles an hour.Grant, Mackenzie, Johnson & self are in one "rabbit hutch". We are really wonderfully comfie - hardened to anything now! The sanitory [sanitary] arrangements are the worst part of this joy-ride; the terrible scarcity of water. We never of course can wash properly - a "cat's lick" at the best. Little did I think, the day would ever come, when I would be glad of a wash in a cup-ful of water - a minute enamel one at that too! We have to forego the pleasure of washing our teeth! There's one consolation, we can't feel much dirtier (or look it either I expect) this voyage.
However, everything considered we are quite enjoying life & we might have found ourselves in a horse-box.
The food question is rather a problem - However most days we stop at some station where we can forage for food & we then bombard the restaurants. We
