Description
& difficult ground, against a hard-fighting enemy, nowhere far removed from his supplies & capable of being re-inforced, the Allied strike was brought to full military duress within two weeks! The Serbs & French forces broke through the Bulgarian defences East of Monastir, while the British "pinned down" large forces on the Front. The Serb-French forces never stopped! They went ahead with an altogether phenomenal speed, getting behind the Bulgar armies on both E. and W. & cutting all vital communications. And it is indeed a happy seal to the whole series of glorious operations, that the last day of fighting saw the fall of Uskub - the old capital of Serbia. Oh, to be with the Serbs in their own dear Serbia to-day!

Oct: 3rd Convalescent Camp - Horliack.
Such a lovely surprise this morning, who should appear but W. - dear old thing. She came down to the 43rd with 2 more "sick" from the Unit & goes back this afternoon, but had to come up here first! The Unit are still at Denni-Pojar. When Transport arrives they move up in to Serbia via Monastir - not over the "ridge". Such good news from everywhere. St. Quentin has fallen in to the hands of the French. Then on Oct: 1st our cavalry entered Damascus & occupied the town, taking over 7000 prisoners. I expect my medical board any day now.
