Description
Letter to householders issued by the Lighting and Cleansing Department of the Royal Burgh of Edinburgh in 1915. Outlines changes being made to household refuse collections due to wartime conditions. Typewritten on pale pink paper. One-sided. Crest of the Royal Burgh of Edinburgh appears at the top of the letter.

The letter notes that the collection of house refuse has been reduced from a daily weekday service to alternate days only. Householders are also encouraged to burn as much refuse as possible at home. Waste paper is till to be collected as normal.
Changes to public services were made throughout the war in response to the shortage of labour available once large numbers of men were serving overseas.
