Title
The Dog and the Shadow, illustrated page from 'Baby's Own Aesop'
Description
In the top half of the picture a dog is crossing a bridge holding a bone and looking at its reflection in the water below. In the background stands a watermill, trees and a bull. Water lilies grow up through the water and the rhyme is written inside the shape of a leaf with an iris behind it. It reads:
"The Dog and the Shadow

His image the dog did not know,
Or his bone's, in the pond's painted show
"T'other dog," so he thought
"has got more than he ought,"
So he snapped, and his dinner saw go!"

Greed is sometimes caught by its own bait."
