Accompanying text from the volume German Raid on Scarborough reads " Mine sweeper. - The Germans are adept at mine laying, as sailors of many nationalities know to their cost, and they did not forget to sow these seeds of destruction thickly in the sea as they came along. So the Government called in the heroic fishermen of the East Coast to sweep the seas and rid them of these terrors. Many trading vessels were struck and many lives were lost, while some of the mine sweepers themselves became victims and paid the full penalty. The "Passing", a Grimsby trawler, one of the newest and most up-to-date fishing vessels, with full equipment enabling them to deal with the fish in every way - extracting the oil, and manufacturing the refuse into manure - is shewn as she lay ashore after having struck a mine. The view gives some idea of the explosive power and the enormous damage done by a collision with a mine. Fortunately she had water tight compartments and so managed to run ashore at Scarborough."
