Description
A square tower castle ruin stands on a rocky promontory that extends into the sea. Around the craggy shoreline there are various people, some are angling and some are setting sail in boats. Small rowing boats are docked in the harbour.
The islands of Cumbrae and Bute can be seen in the background.

Portencross Castle was built in the mid to late fourteenth centuries and was the seat of the Boyd family. It featured in the BBC television series 'Restoration' in 2004, a competition in which the public voted for the historic building they would like to save.
