Electric trams were introduced in Leith on the 18th of August 1905, but some horse-drawn trams were kept on until 1909 in case of problems with the new system.
There was a tram depot in Dryden Street at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century.
Until the cable-car system used in Edinburgh was converted to electric, after the amalgamation of Leith with Edinburgh in 1920, anyone travelling between Leith and Edinburgh had to change trams at Pilrig.
