Title
Page thirteen of 'Flora's Feast', the Black Knight
Description
A figure wearing a complete suit of armour, carrying a club, and surrounded by white flowers confidently strides forward. The knight is followed by a procession of two young men dressed in floral garments and clutching a staff. The accompanying text reads:
"Black knight-at-arms, the white-plumed Thorn;
In pomp the Crown Imperial borne".
Artist / maker
Crane, Walter
Date
1902
Size
25.0 x 18.5 cm
Type
Publisher's print

As with the illustration on the previous page, Crane continues to borrow from history by depicting the figure of a knight. This appeals to the sense of medieval fantasy that he employs in his other works, namely 'Queen Summer, or The Journey of the Lily and the Rose' (1891).
