A boy is examined by a doctor at the Tuberculosis Detection Clinic, Royal Victoria Dispensary, Edinburgh. The boy is striped to the waist and the doctor is examining his neck, aided by a nurse who is wearing a long white apron and a black bonnet. Large windows let light into the room and cast shadows on the floor. There is a fireplace with a calendar on it behind them and in front of them a table with medical equipment and books on it. A chair stands beside a wastepaper bin.
