Description
The object is a home-made doll created from a Simplicity knitting pattern. The 'Holly Hobby' doll has a white knitted face, amber coloured plastic eyes and a red stitched mouth. The toy has brown hair made of wool and wears a brown floral pioneer-style dress, with brown felt shoes fastened with a pearl. The costume also comes with white cotton undergarments.

In the early 1970s there was a craze for Holly Hobbie, a simple country girl who first appeared on a range of greetings cards. Holly was soon to be found on merchandise of all kinds, including dolls, clothes, stationary, tableware, ornaments and craft kits. Holly Hobbie is also the name of the artist who created the character.
