The small hebridean island of Eigg lies off the west coast of Scotland and to the south of Skye. After suffering many years of mismanagement from absentee landlords, the community, in partnership with Scottish Wildlife Trust and Highland Council, bought the island in 1997. It has a population of approximately 80 people and is easily reached by tourists by boat from Mallaig. An Sgurr is a columned mass of volcanic pitchstone rising to over 1200ft at the southern end of Eigg and approached by a mile long rocky ridge. Find out more about the Isle of Eigg
