Charlie Napier

Charlie Napier loves to swing
in time with every song he'll sing.
Tapping his toes and smacking his lips
bending his knees and shaking his hips,
his rhythm runs through everything.

So playfully he sways and skips!
The concertina that he grips
is very nearly made to sing
as sweet as any bell might ring.
There's music in his finger tips.

Charlie is such an entertaining sight,
Singing and swinging in sheer delight!

Edward Holt was an Edinburgh caricaturist and figure painter working in the second half of the nineteenth century. This images is taken from a bound volume which contains a large proportion of his surviving work.
There is a little uncertainty over Edward Holt's name. He is sometimes referred to as Edmund and was more commonly known as Ned.
