Warrender Park Swimming Baths
Description
The interior of Warrender Park Swimming Baths, Edinburgh. The swimming pool is covered with a pitched roof with wooden supporting beams and glass panels. A large arched window lets light into the building and reflects beautifully in the pool. Men and boys stand around the pool's edge mostly wearing swimming trunks. Several are posing on the equipment that can be seen such as the diving board, gymnastic rings and a trapeze.

This image has been chosen for the Edinburgh - Past and Present Exhibition by Kirsty Balfour, International Swimmer - "One of my earliest memories of swimming is at Warrender Baths Swimming Pool. My parents used to take me there every weekend. I spent most of the time under the water watching the sunlight as it made pretty patterns on the tiled floor of the pool" Kirsty Balfour.
Warrender Baths are situated on Thirlestane Road in Marchmont, Edinburgh. They were built in 1886-87 by Robert Paterson and Son. Like many Victorian baths Warrender has a glass roof, giving the interior a light, airy atmosphere by day. The baths underwent substantial renovation between 2004-2006, including general refurbishment and an extension of the gym facilities. The baths are run by Edinburgh Leisure, and are open to the public.
