There is one small boat in the harbour Along the background of the picture is a large single-storeyed building with a light coloured roof, possibly metallic. The photograph has been taken from a sloping grass covered bank. There is a tree in the far left of the picture.

Granton Harbour, situated in the north of Edinburgh on the Firth of Forth, was constructed in the mid 19th century. In addition to acting as a fishing harbour it also provided an important link to Fife and the north of Scotland. From 1848 to 1890 a rail ferry was in operation carrying trains from Granton to Burntisland on the Fife coast.
