The accompanying descriptive text in the volume begins as follows:
'Malleny House, the property of the Right Hon. the Earl of Rosebery, is situated in the parish of Currie, and is in the immediate neighbourhood of the village of Balerno. It is a house of some antiquity, and is surrounded by grounds laid out in the Dutch style of gardening.'

Malleny House is now run by The National Trust for Scotland.
