Title
Ferniehill - conclusions, printed communication for residents
Description
This document produced by City of Edinburgh Council for Ferniehill residents explains findings from the investigation into the subsidence. It reads,
"We now believe that the Ferniehill was started by the failure of one pillar below ground. This failure put undue stress on neighbouring pillars and one by one they collapsed. It was this that caused the damage to the houses. Demolition was the only option and it seems unlikely that this ground will ever be built on again.

This incident was without precedent in Scotland and the lessons learned at Ferniehill will now be applied not only by the City of Edinburgh Council but by other councils and builders throughout the country".
