This image has been chosen for the Edinburgh - Past and Present Exhibition by Mike Pringle MSP - "Who would recognise Causewayside in this photo, a part of Edinburgh I know well as my office is in nearby Grange Road. The gas lamps show it was a time before electricity. What is in the barrel - wine, beer or just water?" Mike Pringle.
Causewayside, or Causeyside, formed part of an ancient approach to Edinburgh from the south. It now refers to a section of road from West Preston Street, close to the Meadows, to Duncan Street.
