Edinburgh Ladies College 70, 72, 73 Queen Street
Description
The girls of Edinburgh Ladies College, Queen Street, Edinburgh work intently in their art class. They have angled boards in front of them on to which they are drawing and painting. Some also have upright boards at the back of their desks no doubt with images on them from which to copy. The room has a barrel shaped ceiling and windows all along the right hand side. Lots of glass lampshades hang from the ceiling and vases of flowers stand on cabinets around the walls.

Queen Street was the home of Edinburgh's Ladies College from 1871-1966.This was just one of a series of moves and name changes for the institution that started life in 1694 as the Maiden Hospital in the Cowgate. In 1944, the college's name changed again to Mary Erskine's reflecting the name of the original creator of the Maiden Hospital.
