Description
Excerpt from page "Heriots Hospital Lodge - The Governors of Heriots Hospital have directed Mr Playfair the architect to make out a design for an approach from the south, directly opposite to the centre of the building by which means the porters lodge would be placed so as to border on the Lauriston Road.
In addition it is also intended that the space all round the hospital shall be excavated and levelled, so as to place the building as it were on a terrace. This terrace would necessarily be 10 feet above the playground on the north and 6 feet above the lawn on the south". Edinburgh Evening Courant. Nov 22nd 1823.

Page also includes photograph - Heriots Hospital from window in Free Library at George IV Bridge.
