The accompanying descriptive text in the volume begins as follows:
'The house of St Germains is situated in the parish of Tranent, East Lothian. It is a large square building, with an addition at one end, and was erected about the end of the last century by David Anderson, Esq., who was at one time Secretary to Warren Hastings, Governor-General of India. An older house stood on the site, a small portion of which has been retained in the present mansion.'
The full text may be viewed from the volume which is held at the Edinburgh and Scottish Collection in Edinburgh Central Library.
St Germains is now bed and breakfast accommodation.
