The accompanying descriptive text in the volume begins as follows:
'The house of Luffness, the residence of Henry Walter Hope, Esq., is situated in the parish of Aberlady, East Lothian. It is a building of an irregular form, with "crow-stepped" gables and tall chimneys, and is partly of very ancient date. In recent times however it was much improved by Sir Alexander Hope, the grandfather of the present proprietor.'
The full text may be viewed from the volume which is held at the Edinburgh and Scottish Collection in Edinburgh Central Library.
Luffness House is still home to the Hope family.
