The accompanying descriptive text in the volume begins as follows:
'This mansion, the principal seat of Sir George Grant Suttie, Bart., is situated in the parish of Prestonpans, East Lothian. It stands in a thickly wooded park, on a rising ground close to the Firth of Forth.
The house is a large building, in the Scottish baronial style of architecture. Portions of it date from the sixteenth century, but about the year 1830 large additions, including a massive tower, were made by the grandfather of the present baronet, from the plans and under the superintendence of Mr W. H. Playfair, architect.
In the basement of the eastern part of the house, the old stone arched vaults still remain from which there was a secret passage to the sea.'
The full text may be viewed from the volume which is held at the Edinburgh and Scottish Collection in Edinburgh Central Library.
Prestongrange House is now the site of Royal Musselburgh Golf Club.
