Throughout the book Crane uses clothing to incorporate the impression of movement to the illustrations. The style of dress here, along with the women's hair and facial features, continue to reveal a classical influence, as well as an interest in the figures depicted in Pre-Raphaelite paintings that were often dressed in drapery and bore a romantic look on their faces.

As with the previous images Crane uses both the figure and the flower to balance the composition as the curves of her arms act as a counterweight to the overarching bend of the flower stem.
