Description
A river flows through a valley between steep hillsides. There are a variety of types and sizes of trees in the low ground and across the hillsides. A large house is situated at the top of the hill in the centre of the view and smoke can be seen coming from its chimneys.

James Skene was born on the family estate of Rubislaw in 1775. The original Rubislaw House - which is most likely the house depicted in this drawing - was demolished in 1886.
