The application form covers the year to 30 April 1977. The signatory had to list their name and trading name, agree to abide by the market rules and pay a £10 fee. In return, they were entitled to use of the market carpark and would receive two identification cards to show that they were registered fish buyers.
In 1896 a new indoor market was opened at Newhaven. Fish was sold that had been landed both locally and at other ports. The market attracted fishing boats and buyers from all over Scotland.
In the 1970s a Fishsalesmen's Association was formed to protect the mutual interests of the local fish merchants.
