During the Edo period, Mount Fuji became more popular and familiar because Edo (the old name of Tokyo) prospered as the centre of the government. The people of Edo could see the mountain from their city. Mount Fuji is still a popular subject for postcards and pictures, and it may be that the owner of the postcard album enjoyed seeing the real Mount Fuji and bought these postcards as souvenirs.
