Description
Actor portrait of Ichikawa Danjuro VIII. The characters of Ashikaga Yorikane, holding a sword, and the sumo wrestler known as Kinagawa Tanizo, depicted peeping through the hedge, would have both been performed by Ichikawa Danjuro VIII in a fast costume change. The villain in this play is easily identifiable by his unusual kimono which is patterned with blue bats and bamboo upon a black ground.
