Holy Cross Church, the Episcopal Church in Davidson's Mains, was founded in 1898. Its first building was prefabricated, made of corrugated iron. The present building was designed by J M Dick Peddie and completed in 1913, although it was originally intended to be larger. There have been major changes to the building since, including a new Church Hall in the 1960s and new windows in 1990.
Once a separate village, Davidson's Mains is now part of the city of Edinburgh. It is situated roughly 3 miles north west of the city centre, close to the north end of Corstorphine Hill. The village was originally known as Muttonhole, and this older name has not entirely fallen out of use. The area gained its current name from its association with the Davidson Family who owned the nearby Muirhouse estate.
