The former General Post Office stands on the corner of Waterloo Place and North Bridge.
Prince Albert laid the foundation stone in October 1861. The building opened in May 1866. The building was extended in 1891-92 and extended and remodelled again in 1907-10 to include an additional upper story.
The GPO closed in October 1995 and has seen been developed into an office complex with only the shell of the original building remaining.
