Tenement buildings and shops on the Canongate, Edinburgh. The shops include a newsagent and a confectioner. Some children stand beside a pram outside the newsagent. The billboard outside the newsagent announces that there is a "Clue to the Trunk Murder". Between the shops is the entrance to Little Jock's [Jack's] Close. An advertisement for McEwan & Son, Slaters and Chimney Sweepers is painted on the tenement wall.
