View of the Great Fire at Edinburgh taken on the 16th day of November 1824
Description
Flames engulf the clock tower of the Tron Kirk on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. The remnants of the fire are visible by the smouldering flames within a partially destroyed tenement building. The scene is being watched by a large crowd of people in amongst them are soldiers and just visible are some firefighters.

The Great Fire of 1824 broke out in Old Assembly Close. It burnt for four days, destroying two tenements and the Tron Kirk. It killed 11 residents and two firemen from the recently formed Edinburgh Fire Engine Establishment. Four hundred people were left homeless.
