Description

A bridge, possibly Colt Bridge to the west of Edinburgh, spans a river. A man has driven a coach full of people over it and is whipping his team of galloping horses. A horse and rider walk along the road towards the bridge. To the right, a woman on a narrow jetty washes clothes in the water, which flows in front of a row of buildings. There are trees in the background.

The location of this painting is uncertain. It may be Colt Bridge, to the west of Edinburgh. it was sometimes known as 'Cot Bridge', and also borders the 'Coates' area of Edinburgh which may have led to some confusion.
