The carriage has stopped to allow the horse to drink at the trough. There is a large advert for the nearby Empire Theatre on the wall of the tenement.

Now divided into East and West Crosscauseway the streets branch east and west from Nicolson Street, connecting it to Richmond Place to the east and Chapel Street to the west. The name is an anglicised version of the older 'Crosscausey'.
