Lauriston Place - north side, central fire station, at south east corner of Lady Lawson Street

Description

The Central Fire Station stands on a corner at Lauriston Place, Edinburgh. It has four arched doorways on the ground level for the fire engines. Double bays of oriel windows are above them and dormer windows line the roof. A tower with a mast above it can be seen behind the building.

Lauriston Place Fire Station was opened in 1900 and is now a Category A Listed building. It was designed by Robert Morham in an Arts & Craft style. It was an operational fire station until 1988, now it is the Headquarters of Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service and home to the Museum of Fire.
