Saroj Lal was a trailblazing teacher, a pioneer and race relations activist working in Scotland for over 50 years before her death in 2020. She was a director of Lothian Racial Equality Council, founder of the Edinburgh Hindu Temple and the first Asian woman to become a Justice of the Peace. She also set up the first ever interpreting and translation service in Edinburgh and was a board member of the Scottish Arts Council.
