Silk banner for the Scottish Co-operative Women's Guild, Northfield Branch.

Description

One navy moiré silk banner for the Scottish Co-operative Women's Guild, Northfield Branch. The banner is lined with black fabric, the fringe is gold silk along the bottom edge, on each side there is a gold silk rope with tassels. In the centre of the banner is a light blue roundel with, 'SCOTTISH CO-OPERATIVE WOMEN'S GUILD' at top, and, 'NORTHFIELD BRANCH FOUNDED 1949', at bottom. The knot of the circled ribbon is rainbow coloured; inside the circle is a fenced paddock surrounded by trees, and a weather vane with a white cockerel with rainbow tail feathers.

Rainbows are the colours of the International Co-Operative Alliance and the International Co-Operative Women's Guild; Unveiling of new banner in the Kintyre Rooms on 9 May 1960 - 140 people attended the dinner. Banner unveiled by the President of the SCWG. Cost of banner paid for by fundraising efforts of branch members, e.g.. staging raffles, hand-made items, etc. Branch opened 1949 - closed March 1971.
