Description
One natural linen banner for the Anti-Vivisection Society of Perthshire. The banner is painted on one side. The banner has natural linen lining and is extended around the top pole. The banner's title scroll reads, 'PERTHSHIRE', and in the motto scroll, 'DO NOBLE THINGS NOT DREAM THEM ALL DAY LONG'. The centre panel features a Scottish terrier on hind legs, begging, with the inscription, 'PLEASE HELP' beside it. The border is a single dark line with tulips in lower corners and along the top.

The Scottish Society for the Prevention of Vivisection was founded in 1911, taking up the work of the Scottish Branch of the National Anti-vivisection Society. The aims of the society were the abolition of vivisection, the protection of animals from cruelty and the prevention of the infliction of suffering. The society had its headquarters in Edinburgh with volunteers working in different parts of Scotland. The banners were displayed at fundraising events and public meetings. The main fundraising event each year was the Dog's Bazaar, which was held in November in the Assembly Rooms. The conveners of each of the areas displayed a banner behind their stall.
