These shoes tell stories. They tell of days in the fields and nights on the dance floor; of hard work and leisure; of thrift and extravagance. They were worn by brewers, servicewomen, music fans and babies. Some were barely worn and ‘kept for best’, while others display years of wear and repairs.
Museums & Galleries Edinburgh has a large collection of footwear within its costume collection, spanning the 18th to 21st centuries. Many of the shoes in this exhibition have not been displayed before.
Together, these shoes provide a glimpse into other lives. Why not come and take a walk in someone else’s shoes?
