Semple Street runs north from Fountainbridge to Morrison Street, almost parallel with Lothian Road. It is a northerly continuation of the now interrupted Thornybauk. The street was named in the 1760's for Robert Semple who owned a brewery at the north end of the street. Houses in Semple Street were demolished in the 1920's.
