Title
Giles Street, property demolished in spring 1914
Description
A group of children stand outside a rundown property. One of the boys is standing on a wall in front of the building, holding on to railings. The house has a pan tile roof and stone walls that have been partially rendered. Many of the windows are broken or boarded up. A set of external stairs leads up to an entrance on the first floor and children hang over the banister looking towards the photographer.

Leith is situated in the north of Edinburgh where the Water of Leith joins the Firth of Forth. It has acted as Edinburgh's maritime connection for many centuries, and continues to be one of the UK's busiest ports. It was incorporated into Edinburgh in 1920 having previously been a separate burgh. It is now home to the Scottish Executive's main offices, Edinburgh's Sikh temple, the Royal Yacht Britannia and Ocean Terminal, a large shopping and entertainment complex.
