Flatted council housing suffering from extensive bomb damage in Craigentinny, Edinburgh. The gable end of one of the three storey buildings has been demolished and several men are inspecting the damage. An Anderson Shelter can be seen in the back garden.

Craigentinny is an area of Edinburgh located a short distance south-east of Leith. The area is grown around Craigentinny Castle which was built in 1604. Today it is now used as a community centre.
In comparison to other Scottish cities, Edinburgh had a fairly quiet war with only 47 high explosive 'missiles' dropped in 14 raids by the Luftwaffe. The fourteenth raid, at 11.20pm on 6th July 1942, saw four 500lb bombs dropped on 35 Loaning Crescent, the junction of Loaning Road and Crescent and Craigentinny House, along with the vacant ground nearby. Several people, including the caretaker at Craigentinny Castle, were killed.
