Description
The pier at Portobello, Edinburgh stretches out into the sea. There are wide steps leading up to the ticket booth where a queue of people are waiting. There people sitting on the sands and men selling things from small handcarts. The gardens of the houses next to the promenade can be seen in the foreground.

This image was possibly taken by Thomas Polson Lugton, who worked from various Edinburgh locations between 1892 and 1918. The trade name "Poulton" seen at the bottom of the image, is derived from his middle and last names.
