Description
An image of the house of David Laing, 12 James Street, Portobello, Edinburgh. The house is set behind a grassy garden. The house has an entrance with a covered portico and the doorway has column on either side. The house features many areas of stone carving particularly over windows and on pediments. The house has two lower wings and ornamental statuary can be seen in the garden.

David Laing was the Librarian of the Signet Library, the first secretary of the Bannatyne Club, and a prominent member of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland. He produced a large body of work on the subjects of Scottish History and Literature. He died in Portobello in 1878.
