Reverse of item is annotated as follows 'taken from near foot of Upper Greenside Lane. The Leith Street buildings were all demolished after the fire which destroyed the Imperial Hotel'

Leith Street is a short street in Edinburgh which runs downhill from the east end of Princes Street towards Leith.

The Greenside area of Edinburgh, immediately to the west of Calton Hill, changed substantially during the second half of the 20th century and the early years of the 21st century. Tall, 19th century tenement buildings were demolished in the 1960's as part of Edinburgh's slum clearances. The Omni Centre, comprising a 12 screen cinema, hotel, bars, restaurants and a fitness centre was opened on the site in 2002.
