Description
Photographs from a skiing holiday in Arosa, Switzerland. It was on this holiday, she met her future husband, John Mitchell as recorded by her ......" 1919. We ate Christmas dinner at Woldingham & then Colin & I went off to Diablerets [Les Diablerets] in Switzerland - where you will all know I met John Fowler Mitchell who was home on leave from the I.C.S. [Indian Civil Service] after nine years in India. Alison's fiancée was also there & got pneumonia & as I nursed him - my mother telegraphed out to tell me to "STAY ON" at her expense. So Colin went
home without me & later I went across the country to AROSA - as Andrew & his mother were going there. Two days later MR MITCHELL followed us & surprised me by proposing I marry him & go out to India. So when I got home to Woldingham John accompanied me & we married in April & spent most of the summer at my mother's - after a honeymoon in sister Ann's cottage at HARTSOP in the Lake District - near Patterdale"
