Sitting in the back garden of the newly completed Newington Library , a journalist wrote:
'This southern oasis, where once a temple stood.'
Newington Library opened in March 1975 on the spot previously occupied by the New United Presbyterian Church. The new library proved very popular with local residents whose nearest library had previously been Morningside or Central Library.
