In the final illustration Crane includes both buds and flowers in a subtle reference to the cyclical process of nature, indicating that the procession will be renewed and therefore ending on a note of optimism that is in-keeping with the tone of whole story. The theme of re-birth is also visible elsewhere in socialist visual culture, thus again confirming the influence of Crane's politics.
