The figures of the Violet and Primrose are depicted here wearing dresses reminiscent of contemporary Aesthetic fashion, with big shoulders and tight fitting sleeves and gathered at the waist, thus demonstrating that Crane incorporated current trends into his children's books.

Another way in which 'Flora's Feast' aligns itself with contemporary social issues is the way in which it comments on clothing. Crane openly criticised the restriction, uniformity and materialism of high fashion, as well as expressing a desire for individual style and the embracement of natural form. These beliefs are revealed in his illustrations through a focus on form and the impression of movement, as well as through the fluidity of influence in dress as a variety of historical styles are shown to co-exist.
