The Solicitors' Buildings, seen on the far side of George IV Bridge in this image, were built between 1888 and 1892 as an addition to the Supreme Courts of Scotland, which would house the library and offices of the Society of Solicitors. Although the lower floors of the building are now leased to other organisations, such as a backpackers' hostel, the library is still in use by the Society of Solicitors, and other rooms in the upper part of the building, which connects with the rear of the Law Courts on the Royal Mile, are also used by solicitors and advocates.
